How can you claim that to have a scientific breakthrough that openly violates the 2nd (gotta stop reading creationist crud) 1st Law of Thermodynamics and can't work around spotlights. Yeah, that's gonna power the world.

It seems that this is belied a bit by the recent passing of the Blasphemy Law in Ireland. We can take it as read that this is a massive step backward from freedom of expression. The slow drift towards theocracy in the US is of concern to all of us. With so many people in a slow orbit around the States, beholden culturally and economically, the influence is pernicious and destructive. The ongoing resurgence in creationism is a worry to anyone who values a search for the truth rather than mere truthiness; who values inquiry rather than dogma; who values freedom with its attendant risks rather than a safe, stultifying oppression of questionably good intentions.
